Prison population in Illinois battling COVID-19 outbreaks

DIXON – The prison population in the state of Illinois and the staff that works at the facilities have been battling COVID-19 for months, and many are still ill across the prairie state. According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, 1,266 are currently infected, with 498 staff also reportedly ill. The Dixon facility currently has 104 inmates infected with 28 staff still not considered recovered from their infection. Pontiac has 45 staff members still battling the disease, with 32 inmates still considered active cases, and Sheridan has 13 staff and 39 inmates infected.
