Peru addresses secret tax increase rumor

PERU – Peru mayor Scott Harl dispelled social media rumors that the city had secretly raised taxes. Harl explained that there is no tax rate associated with the TIF district in Peru. He and other alderman explained that the values of their homes had simply increased in the past year, and that was the cause for any increase in their taxes. Harl further stated that Facebook and social media are risky places to consume news, and the sources may not be credible.
