Over 100 lbs of Cocaine Found During Traffic Stop on I-55

TOWANDA – Two are in custody after a traffic stop made by the Illinois State Police Thursday led to the discovery of over 100 lbs of purported cocaine.
A Trooper from the Statewide Criminal Patrol Team stopped a truck tractor-semi trailer on I-55 near Towanda to conduct a safety inspection. During the inspection the Trooper observed indicators of possible criminal activity. A State Police canine allegedly alerted to the odor of illegal drugs within the semi-trailer.
A search of the trailer by Illinois State Troopers and McLean County Deputies resulted in the seizure of fifty kilograms of suspected cocaine hidden within the trailer.
Arrested for Controlled Substance Trafficking, Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance were Brandon R. Weise, 35, of Murrieta, California and Miguel Martinez, 36, of Desert Springs, California. Both were taken to the McLean County Jail held on $500,000 bonds.
