Ottawa High School Releases Statement on Threat

OTTAWA – In the release reprinted below, Ottawa Superintendent Michael Cushing explained what action the school took from an apparent threat Thursday.

“Dear Parents and Community Members,
I want to make you aware of an alleged threat of harm that was made by one of our students against other unnamed individuals today, February 15, 2018. Based upon this individual’s alleged threats, the District immediately notified the Ottawa Police Department and then diligently cooperated with the department so that the student in question could be located. The District was fortunately made aware of the alleged threats due to the thoughtful and proactive actions of other students who reported them to District personnel.
As recent events have taught all of us, any threats of harm need to be taken seriously and should be promptly reported to the appropriate authorities. We encourage you and your children to immediately report any threats of harm to any District official immediately and to support the “See Something, Say Something” movement. The District hopes that together we can proactively work to prevent violence and to keep our school safe for all students, staff members and visitors.
Sincerely,
Michael Cushing, Superintendent
Ottawa Township High School”
