Oak Park Mayor orders voluntary two-week shelter in place


OAK PARK – In an announcement on Wednesday the Village of Oak Park declared a local state of emergency and asked residents to voluntarily abide by a two-week shelter in place order. Mayor Anan Abu-Taleb used his rights under the Illinois Municipal Code to urge residents to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They announced it would go into effect on Friday and last until April 3rd. Exceptions were noted for travel and workers at essential services, including grocery stores, banks, convenience stores, pharmacies, restaurants for delivery and pick up only, laundromats, skilled trades essential to maintaining the safety and sanitation of residences, hardware stores, medical service providers, first responders, transportation providers, government activities and essential social service providers and shelters.
