PONTIAC – A batch of mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus. According to the Livingston County Health Department, the mosquitoes were collected in Pontiac. West Nile Virus is transmitted through the bite of a common house mosquito, which has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird. According to the Livingston County Director of Environmental Health, Donnie Simmons, wearing insect repellent and getting rid of standing water around your home will help reduce your risk of being bitten by an infected mosquito.
