CHICAGO – More Americans plan on hitting the road this holiday season. The American Automobile Association expects over 100 million people to drive to their destinations with cheaper gas prices fueling their decision. The national gas price average of $2.37 a gallon is the cheapest price at the pump seen during the month of December since 2016. Local gas prices have dropped as well, with Putnam and LaSalle county seeing a nearly 40 cent per gallon decrease. Currently, LaSalle county is averaging $2.09 a gallon, one of the lowest in the state. Bureau County is at $2.19 a gallon and Putnam County is at $2.10.
