MENDOTA – A third party will be brought in to help determine if the city of Mendota needs to upgrade their level of service for the Fire Department.  The Mendota City Council voted Monday to move forward with plans to see what improvements should be made, if any.  McGrath Consulting Group out of Wonder Lake, Illinois will help determine if an increase of manpower and equipment is necessary to meet the needs of not only the city, but the entire fire protection district.   The Mendota Fire Department will contribute $9000 to the cost of the survey, which will cost around $30,000.   The Mendota Fire Fighters Union, Local 4200, shared a photo on social media on Wednesday that showed a majority of empty hooks where gear was once hung, emphasizing the reduced number of paid positions, but also highlighting a nationwide shortage of firefighters.
