MENDOTA – A new device to detain individuals in certain situations by law enforcement was introduced to Mendota’s City Council Monday. According to Mendota Police Officer Randy Tucker, so far only a few officers have been trained on the Bola Wrap, a hand-held device that fires a chord in a lasso-like manner to detain a person. Tucker says the Bola Wrap is designed to detain a person from a distance. The tool would only be deployed at a few target locations on individuals like between the mid-thigh and ankle or between the elbows and wrists. Four Bola Wrap devices have been purchased and more will be on the way in the near future. Mendota will be the first department in the area to be trained with the equipment.
