OTTAWA – Rising rivers due to melting snow and rain has greatly affected parts of Illinois, and while Lasalle County hasn’t seen much flooding, its still hurting soil. According to LaSalle County Farm Bureau President David Isermann, snow in northern and southern parts of the county is yet to melt. Isermann says LaSalle County has been unseasonably wet for some time now. He says even if the temperature starts to warm up now, it could takes weeks until the soil dries up. Corn requires 60 to 100 frost-free days to reach harvest. Isermann says it’s going to take a long time to undo what this winter brought. At this rate he predicts planting to commence in late April.
