Man rescued from Mississippi River attempting to float to Kentucky

ROCK ISLAND – A man attempting to float down the Mississippi River on a log to Kentucky was rescued in Rock Island on Monday. According to the Rock Island Fire Department, just after 1 p.m. on Monday. they  responded to a report of a subject in the water near the Crescent Bridge. Authorities say they located to subject floating down the channel holding onto a large log heading towards a barge. The subject was pulled from the river by rescue boat and told fire crews that he entered the water willingly from the shore of Davenport and was planning on relocating to “The Bluegrass State” and intended to use the log to make the trip to Kentucky. The subject was taken safely to shore and strongly encouraged to make other transportation arrangements.
