Local unemployment rates drop


 
 
OTTAWA – Local unemployment rates have dropped significantly since the beginning of Spring. According to the Illinois Department of Employment Statistics, while statewide numbers have been a steady 4.4%, local county rates are nearly half of what they used to be in March. Putnam County comes in at the top with the lowest unemployment rates locally at 4.2%, over a percent decrease compared to April and over a 3 % drop since March. LaSalle County follows with 4 and a half percent, compared to almost 6% last month and over 7 % in March. Bureau County ranks at 3.7 %, over a percent decrease since last month, and over a 3 % drop since the start of spring.
