Local law makers give recap to whats happening in Springfield

STREATOR – State Senator Sue Rezin, Senator  Jason Barickman and Representative Lance Yednock, gave Streator people a briefing on their legislative session and what they hope for the future of Illinois, on Thursday morning at Evergreen Place Supportive Living.
Sen. Sue Rezin, who’s running for Congress in the 14th District next year, discussed major policies that took effect in the last 48 hours like the minimum wage increase.

Rezin says she continues to work towards managing Starved Rock State Park. Since the capitol bills passing, she and other legislators were able to prioritize some maintenance projects for the upcoming year that they would like to see done
Senator Jason Barickman emphasized on what the priorities of legislators should be.

He discussed the push for a rationalization factor in the minimum wage law, a safe guard he and other republicans thought was important.

While that safeguard feature did not pass, Barickman says as the Governor moved further along into the legislative cycle, he’s saw more of a willingness to embrace other ideas that republicans advocated for like business reform.
Yednock, a rookie legislator,  outlined business reform like the bipartisan Blue Collar Jobs Act, a positive that came out of negotiations when the state’s budget was passed.

Yednock also addressed the opioid crisis, mentioning his support of bills to combat the epidemic. He currently holds advisory board quarterly to influence the state legislator on reform.

Illinois law makers return for veto session at the end of this month, then start their regular cycle in the new year.
