Lee County School Adds Camera to Catch Those Passing Buses

AMBOY – Amboy School District has taken to installing cameras on school buses to catch drivers passing them when they are stopped. So far this year they have already had to send three sets of images to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for drivers who allegedly drove around a bus with the stop arm out along US Highway 52. Illinois law provides that the driving privileges of a person convicted of passing a stopped school bus will be suspended for three months for the first offense. According to the Illinois State Police state statute provides that the owner of the car is responsible for identifying the operator of the vehicle if they were not the driver when the violation occurred. Otherwise, the owner faces the charges.
