LaSalle, Peru and Secret Service investigate counterfeit bill cases

Secret Service flyer

Peru – The LaSalle and Peru police departments are working closely with the Secret Service to investigate cases of counterfeit money being passed around the cities. According to Peru Detective John Atkins, the bills that are being passed around will pass the counterfeit pen test because they are printed on bleached bills. A bleached or washed bill is when the ink from a lower denomination bill is washed off and then a higher denomination bill is printed on the paper. The counterfeiters cannot wash off the hologram of the person located on the lower left corner of the bill. The Peru and LaSalle Police Departments are warning businesses to be on the lookout and report any suspicious activity immediately.
