OTTAWA – The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam where someone falsely claims to be from the office. According to sheriff’s, the scammer uses actual names and ranks of current deputies, and asks the person by name why they’ve missed grand jury duty. While the caller may sound legitimate, sheriff’s say they will not call you to tell you that you have a warrant or owe fines and provide you with options to pay those fines. If you or someone you know receives a call similar to these, authorities say to get the callers name and agency, hang up and contact your local authorities.
