OTTAWA – LaSalle County Board approved an amended lease with Midwest Barge Terminal to operate on riverfront property on Thursday’s meeting. After a 75% majority vote was not reached to approve the lease during last month’s board meeting, Midwest Barge Terminal agreed that it would not ship or store silica sand or pet coke at the facility. Although several board members voiced their hesitancy in transporting sand so close to the LaSalle County Nursing Home, the majority of the members agreed that Midwest Barge Terminal has a record of operating in the scope of safety and that the lease will be in the best interest of the county, both in terms of safety and finances.
