OGLESBY – Illinois Valley Community College will be offering a Cannabis Dispensary Agent and Patient Care Specialist program through their Continuing Education Center.  The class will be from 6 to 9 PM Wednesdays, Oct. 7 through Nov. 18 at the main campus in Oglesby.  The program prepares individuals for both medical and recreational cannabis markets and can be carried over to other parts of the industry. Students will learn to speak and educate others confidently about cannabis and examine detailed information on the cannabis plant and how it can be used medicinally.

It also provides an overview of Illinois State laws regarding Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulations and how they can be implemented within a dispensary or retail setting. The course prepares students for state licensure.

Director of Continuing Education and Business Services Jennifer Scheri said, “IVCC responds to the needs of various industries by providing training to build workforces. With the legalization of marijuana in Illinois, and the pending issuance of additional dispensary licenses, the timing for this program is perfect.”

Joseph Naszke, course instructor, worked closely with the college to develop the program.

Those looking to work within the cannabis market must be 21 or older, and must pass a criminal background check. Cost is $299. To register or for information, call (815) 224-0547.
