IVCC planning events for Black History Month

OGLESBY – Illinois Valley Community College’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee has announced some of the activities they have planned around Black History Month. Virtual events will be hosted by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History as well as online events featuring IVCC faculty, students and alumni. IVCC instructor Amanda Cook Fesperman facilitates Discussion Two of the book “How to Be an Antiracist,” by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. Alumnus Jibril Church will discuss the HBO television series “Lovecraft Country” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25. The 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Writing Contest winners reception is at noon Friday, Feb. 26 via Zoom. Contest winners will read their essays.
“By working with the ASALH, we’re able to bring a wider variety of events for the IVCC community to experience,” Cook Fesperman said.
