Illinois Department of Agriculture plans to distribute more than $500,000 in grants

 
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Agriculture plans to distribute more than $500,000 over a three-year period to expand the availability of locally-grown produce. The funding, allocated by the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program in the Farm Bill, will be awarded to those who win approval for projects in calendar year 2024. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, government entities, commodity associations and colleges. There are more than 3,200 producers devoting more than 90,000 acres of farmland in the state to specialty crops, creating nearly $472 million in annual sales.
