Grant For Sidewalks Explored in LaSalle

By: Magikphil

LASALLE – The city of LaSalle is hoping to improve the sidewalks children take to school. Economic Development Director Katherine Toraason says the Illinois Safe Routes to School Grant, provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation, will help fund repair of damaged sidewalks within a two mile radius of campus. She says many kids walk to school on sidewalks covered in grass making it difficult. Toraason worked hand in hand with elementary and middle schools, getting the recommendation of Superintendent Brian DeBernardi, for specific routes to improve. The $200,000 grant could improve sidewalks along St. Vincent Avenue, Bucklin Street to Lafayette Street, and Hennepin Street to Sterling Street in LaSalle.
