CHICAGO – Local and statewide gas prices are some of the cheapest gas prices of year, according to AAA. However, motorists are paying 15-20 cents more than they did last December. In LaSalle County, gas prices average at $2.49 per gallon, 8 cents cheaper than last month. Putnam County fall just under LaSalle’s average at $2.48 and Bureau County, at $2.47. At this time last year, the gas price average statewide was $2.29 per gallon. AAA Spokesperson Jeanette Casselano says, gas prices are more expensive year-over-year in part due to higher crude prices this winter over last.
