First significant snow of the season on the way

 
OTTAWA – A significant snow event could welcome in the new year, as the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Saturday. Upwards of 7″ total snow could be possible in a wide band across North Central Illinois, with winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Temperatures are expected to drop, leading to drifting and some hazards to travel.  The Storm Watch begins tomorrow morning at 6 AM and continues through midnight Saturday.
