Final arguments Friday in Cusick trial

OTTAWA – Defense attorneys rested their case in the trial of a former Ottawa fireman accused of drowning his wife in a toilet. An additional forensic pathologist was brought in Thursday morning to testify that there are inconsistencies to injuries found in the second autopsy of Cusick’s late wife Tracy. Dr. Shaku Teas is the second pathologist to say that bruising and pressure marks found on Tracy’s body were not signs of violence, but a product of decomposition. During cross examination prosecution argued that the marks on Tracy’s forehead were indentations from her wedding band, when she could have put her hand on the toilet to try and stop her head from going in the water. Teas says it could have been from Tracy’s simply resting her head on her left hand to sustain those pressure marks. Defense attorneys also noted to jurors, that it took until 2011 for Tracy’s death certificate to be completed, a process that normally takes up to 6 months after death. Cusick previously claims he found his late wife unresponsive with her head in the toilet in 2006. Final arguments will begin Friday at the LaSalle County Courthouse. Cusick will not be testifying.
