Farmers worry soybean and pork exemptions won’t last long

UNDATED – China exempted soybeans and pork from tariffs following a number of waived imports on United States goods that went into effect on Tuesday. American farmers have been hit hard by the trade war, but the news on the politically sensitive goods might not last for long. LaSalle County’s Farm Bureau President David Isermann says he’s uncertain whether this is the first step in settling or just a breather from the trade war. As for soybeans, prices went down some, but are still depressed. According to Business Insider, as of Thursday, soybean prices are $8.94 compared to $8.30 on this day last year. Isermann says the big worry for farmers is how long the exemptions will last.
