Family Escapes Rural Amboy Fire; Dog Perishes

AMBOY – One dog has perished but a family escaped a house fire near Amboy early Thursday morning. According to the Amboy Fire Department they were called after 4 AM to the 1400 block of Sterling Road for a house fire. Reportedly two children were trapped on the second floor of the home, but were rescued by the parents after the children crawled out a window on to an adjacent roof. All of the family members were treated for smoke inhalation. Sublette, Dixon Rural and Dixon City Departments helped battle the blaze. One dog in the home was rescued by firefighters but one did perish. No injuries were reported by the first responders. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
