Employment rebounding in North Central Illinois

OTTAWA – The local unemployment rate is on the mend as the economy continues to rebound from layoffs and reduced spending by consumers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Illinois Department of Employment Security released the latest figures, showing the area is fairing better than the statewide average. LaSalle County showed the biggest improvement from the June showing of 13.6% unemployment, dropping to 10.1% in July. Bureau and Putnam both showed positive signs as well, dropping over 2% each. Bureau was down to 7.8% and Putnam down to 8.3%, well below the Illinois average for July of 11.3%.
