Drinking water in Pontiac experiencing a temporary change in taste and odor

By: Nate Steiner

PONTIAC – Residents in and around Pontiac may notice their water tasting or smelling different, but authorities say it is not something that should raise concern. Illinois American Water on Thursday said a limited number of customers may notice a difference due to the water levels of the Vermillion River. Operations Superintendent Corey Robinson said they are monitoring the situation and will be adjusting water treatment as necessary to continue to make it safe to drink. The lack of rain has caused the Vermillion to see an increase in organic compounds which results in an earthy or musty taste and odor.
