OGLESBY- Illinois Valley Community College board secretary Judy Day of Ottawa has been nominated for the 2020 Illinois Community College Trustees Association Professional Board Staff Member Award.  In their nomination, IVCC board chair Jane Goetz and President Jerry Corcoran said Day demonstrates IVCC’s core values: respect, responsibility, caring, fairness and honesty.

“Judy Day is one of the most dedicated and caring coworkers we have worked with in our combined 47 years with IVCC. Her commitment to high-quality customer service is outstanding and an example for the rest of us to follow.”

Corcoran and Goetz noted Day often anticipates potential areas of concern.

“Judy heads off problems before they get started. She is well respected by our board and colleagues view her as a ‘go-to person’ for solving problems. She handles sensitive and confidential information responsibly.”

Day completes projects ahead of time – without reminders – and is “respectful of everyone.”

Meeting notes of the President’s Council and cabinet, as well as minutes from all regular and special board meetings “are of the highest possible quality.”

“Judy is honest — the foundation upon which trust is built — and she promotes a positive work environment.”

Day was one of the first employees to earn IVCC’s Support Staff Distinguished Service Award. For nearly 35 years, Day has demonstrated fairness to all employees “and that has helped the administration gain support for major initiatives.”

Nominees will be honored and the winner announced at ICCTA’s awards banquet June 5th in Chicago. Longtime IVCC board secretary Jeanne Hayden of Peru was the inaugural recipient of the award in 2012.
