SPRING VALLEY – A 9-year-old girl on a bicycle was struck by a pickup in Spring Valley Monday morning. According to Spring Valley Police, the child was crossing at US Route 6 and Richards Street with a crossing guard who was holding a stop sign when a pickup truck traveling east reportedly failed to stop and struck the child. She was taken to IVCH by ambulance and was treated and released. The driver of the truck allegedly left the scene and was located a few blocks from the accident location. The driver, 86-year-old Clifford L. Sondgeroth was charged with failure to yield in a crosswalk, disobeying a school cross guard, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to give aid or information.
