Child Dies After Fatal Hit and Run; Officer’s Car Struck During Investigation

AURORA – A child is dead and Aurora Police are looking for the driver and passenger after a crash Monday night. According to authorities they were called to the intersection of Lake Street and Plum Street where two were struck by a southbound car, an 8 year-old boy and his grandfather. Witnesses stated they saw the vehicle allegedly flee the scene. The Aurora Fire Department transported the boy to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities located the vehicle parked with heavy front end damage, however, no occupants were found. During the investigation of the fatal crash, an alleged drunk driver struck a parked squad car with the officer inside at the same location. That driver reportedly attempted to flee but was apprehended a few blocks away. No injuries were reported in the second crash and that driver is facing multiple charges, including DUI and leaving the scene of the accident. The fatal pedestrian crash is still under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Aurora Police Department.
