Byron man charged in death of ex-wife and son after house fire in 2016

BYRON – A Byron man faces multiple charges, including first degree murder, in the death of a woman and her child as a result of a house fire. According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, an 18 month investigation began with state and federal partners for a reported suspicious house fire in Byron that results in the death of 31-year-old Margaret Meyer and her 3-year-old son Amos Meyer. As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old Duane Meyer, who officials say is the father of Amos, is charged with four counts of 1st Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Arson, and one count of Concealment of a Homicidal Death. He is being held at the Ogle County Jail on a $10 million bond.
