Alexis Ferracuti, member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, encouraged the board to spread awareness on mental health and suicide prevention. Ferracuti noted that suicide is the number one leading cause of death for people in Illinois ages 15 to 34. According to LaSalle County Coroner William Wujek, so far 13 people in the county have committed suicide this year, compared to 14 last year. LaSalle County’s Out of the Darkness walk hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will be on October 13th in Ottawa.
