BioBlitz Nature Discovery Walk coming to Ottawa

By: Dan Keck

OTTAWA – The LaSalle Public Library will be hosting a nature walk at a park in Ottawa on Saturday. The BioBlitz Nature Discovery Walk will be held at Catlin County Park from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Adults and families are invited to experience nature close up in this free event that is educational and a real contribution to the scientific community. Using a free app, participants will observe and photograph flora and fauna as they explore the trails at the park. Every documented observation can contribute to biodiversity science. From the rarest salamander to backyard birds to common weeds, participants will upload observations to scientific data repositories to help scientists, worldwide, find and use the information.
Participants will meet Library staff at the first parking lot by the park shelter and playground by 9:30 AM As this event is outdoors, participants should dress appropriately for hiking and consider protection from the sun, insects and weather. The BioBlitz will take place rain or shine, unless there is a risk of dangerous weather or heavy downpours. To confirm that the BioBlitz is a “go,” the Library will confirm via email with all registered participants by 5:00 PM on June 24th.
The BioBlitz Nature Discovery Walk is part of Pollinator Pathways, a community project to provide awareness about wild bees and pollinators. For more information, please contact the Library by calling 815-223-2341.
