Authorities warn of unemployment benefits scam

LASALLE – Authorities are warning of an unemployment benefits scam that is occurring around Illinois. The LaSalle Police Department on Wednesday alerted residents to a scam where individuals are receiving a debit card for unemployment benefits from the state which they never applied for. You should contact your local law enforcement agency and the IDES if you receive an unsolicited benefit card in the mail. The Illinois Department of Employment Services is working with federal law enforcement authorities to investigate, pursue, and prosecute those who defraud the unemployment insurance system. You can also go to FTC.GOV to file an identity theft affidavit.
