Armed Robbery in Peru

A Chicago man has been charged with the armed robbery early Saturday of the McDonalds on Shooting Park Road in Peru. Chief Doug Bernabei said 48 year old Eddie Stiff is also charged with aggravated battery for injuries to an employee during the 4:30 a.m. robbery. The employee was taken by ambulance to IVCH for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The Chief said Stiff was fully masked, wearing dark clothing and armed with a semi-automatic handgun and fled the area on foot following the holdup. He said thanks to an intensive investigation by Peru and LaSalle Police Departments and the State Attorney’s office, Still was arrested around 7 a.m. Chief Bernabei said authorities have recovered at various locations a firearm, currency, video evidence, a money drawer, suspected clothing, and the mask believed to have been worn during the robber along with a motor vehicle. The Chief praised the employee for how he handled himself during this very scary event, along with the entire McDonald’s team as well as numerous other area businesses and residents who provided critical assistance to authorities during the investigation. He also commended the work of the initial responding officers from Peru and LaSalle, the Peru detectives and the 2 assistant states attorneys who worked the case. Chief Bernabei said he has no doubt that the professional team approach to this crime led to a quick and successful resolution. Still reportedly is currently on parole and has an extensive history including murder and armed robbery. He is due in bond court this evening.
