Area law enforcement rebuffs new gun legislation

OTTAWA – Many area law enforcement officials have gone on record indicating they will not enforce the new gun legislation passed by the Illinois Assembly and signed into law by Governor Pritzker. In similarly worded memos released by the Sheriff’s of LaSalle, Bureau, Grundy, Putnam and many other counties, they say that they support the constitution and the 2nd amendment, and will not arrest those who do not comply with the new law. The legislation bans dozens of specific brands or types of rifles and handguns, .50-caliber guns, attachments and rapid-firing devices. No rifle would be allowed to accommodate more than 10 rounds, with a 15-round limit for handguns as well after the passage of the Protect Illinois Communities Act.
