Alleged LaSalle County government computer hackers asking for over $400,000

OTTAWA – The alleged hackers of LaSalle County’s government computers are reportedly asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars. At a press conference Wednesday morning, LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton said he could not confirm details of the investigation, however public safety is unhindered. According to an information security and technology news publication, the alleged operators behind the ransomware are demanding a 50 bitcoin ransom or over $400,000. LaSalle County officials do not intend on paying the ransom and predict service in a few weeks.
