71-year-old dies after Sterling house fire

STERLING – A 71-year-old man is dead after a fire Monday in Sterling. The Sterling Fire Department say they were called to the 1400 block of Johnson Ave around 3 AM for a two story home ablaze. They were notified of a person possibly trapped in the rear first floor bedroom. Timothy A. Aurand was removed and air lifted to a Chicago hospital where he succumb to his injuries. Another occupant, a 58-year-old woman that was taken to an area hospital and is in guarded condition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
