2020 Illinois deer hunt tops 2019 total

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois hunters harvested more deer this year than last, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. On Wednesday they released the preliminary totals showing 76,579 deer were taken during the seven-day 2020 firearm season, up from 75,417 in 2019. Hunters took 1001 in Bureau County, 320 in Putnam County and 697 in LaSalle County. To help combat Chronic Wasting Disease, there will be additional hunting dates made available later this winter.

Remaining 2020-21 deer season in the weeks ahead include:
• Muzzleloader-Only Deer Season, Dec. 11-13;
• Late-Winter Antlerless-Only Deer Season and CWD Deer Season (in designated counties only), Dec. 31, 2020 – Jan. 3, 2021 and Jan. 15-17, 2021; and
• Archery Deer Season, which continues through Jan. 17, 2021.
