West Nile found in bird in Ransom

RANSOM / LA SALLE COUNTY — A blue jay collected from the community of Ransom on September 25th has tested positive for West Nile virus. The La Salle County Health Department says the bird went through testing at the University of Illinois to confirm that the virus was found. It is the first positive test of the virus since late August, when a crow in Mendota also tested positive for West Nile. It is only the fourth positive test of the virus in La Salle County this year, and no human cases have been reported.
