STREATOR- Annual Rummage Sale
Streator Unlimited's annual rummage sale is Thursday, Oct. 2, from 9 - 5 p.m.  There will be a $1 bag sale on Friday, Oct. 3, from 9 - 2 p.m.  Proceeds support our services to adults with developmental disabilities.

OGLESBY- IVCC Offers Intro. to Internet and E-mail class
 Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Department will offer Introduction to the Internet and Email from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 7-28 in room A 323. Students will learn skills to navigate the internet and email including basic and advanced web searches, job search, online shopping, and online banking. The class will also include internet security, scam avoidance, and identity theft warnings. Cost of the four-session course is $99. A textbook and 2-gigabyte flash drive are required. OTTAWA/OGLESBY- CNA Class Openings
Openings remain in second eight-week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) courses, the first step for those interested in pursuing a career in nursing. Classes start Monday, Oct. 13 at Illinois Valley Community College’s Ottawa Center and the main campus in Oglesby.CNA consists of lecture, laboratory practice and clinical experience in a long-term care facility. Obtaining the CNA is required for students pursuing the Registered Nursing (RN) or Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree. Cost of the eight-credit certification is $888 plus fees and textbook. PERU- DBSA Support Group
The DBSA (Depression, Bi-Polar, Anxiety, Association) of the Illinois Valley support group meets every first and third Monday of the month on the forth floor in conference room C at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.  If you suffer from these mental disorders we encourage you to attend and you may even bring a friend and or family member with you.  Anything you talk about will be kept in strict confidence.  It is a place to come and share your experiences and ways of comping without being judged. PRINCETON- Diabetes Meeting Offered Monthly
Perry Memorial Hospital wants to provide information and support to those who are dealing with diabetes. Each month, on the 2nd Tuesday, Perry has an informational meeting to provide up-to-date guidelines and realistic ways to manage the diagnosis of diabetes. There will also be time at each meeting for open discussion and sharing of ideas. Please contact at (815) 876-4449 to register for this meeting.


PERU- IVCH Flu Clinic
Illinois Valley Community Hospital has set dates for five public flu immunization clinics at five locations in September and early October.  IVCH nurses will be giving flu shots:
     Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 2-5 p.m. in the IVCH room at Peru Mall (near the Sears store). In addition to the adult vaccine, pediatric doses will also be available from the LaSalle County Health Department at this clinic only.
     Thursday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Illinois Valley Community College.
Flu shots are also available at the IVCH FastCare walk-in clinic, which is open seven days a week at the Peru Walmart. Pneumonia vaccine, which requires a doctor’s order, will also be available at the flu clinics.The fee to receive a flu shot is $30.  Pneumonia shots are $85.  Medicare assignment will be accepted with proof of Medicare Part B eligibility.For more information, call Joan Fernandez at 815-780-4618.


UTICA - Angel of Hope Fest
The Utica Business Association, August Hill Winery and Team Angels Among Us will host Angel of Hope Fest from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, in downtown Utica. There will be artwork, raffles, food and drinks, plus live music by Howard and the White Boys and Big Uproar. Admission is free but donations encouraged as proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

 
LASALLE- Hog Roast
LaSalle County's Combat Veterans Support Group is holding a Hog Roast Oct. 4. Food will be from 4-8 p.m. and dancing starting at 8 p.m. There will be raffles, games of chance, 50/50 ,silent auctions D&J and dancing, Fee will be $7 in advance and $9 at door. Kids 5-10 are $3.50 at door only and 4 and under are free.
 

MENDOTA- All American Motors Car Show
Celebrating 60 years, AMC is holding their car show on Saturday Oct. 4 at Lake Mendota from 8-3:30 p.m. Awards will be given in a various categories with costs varying as: $20 Pre-registration, $25 Day of Show, $25 Car & Swap space, and $30 Swap only. LASALLE-PERU- Wind Ensemble Concert
The Illinois Valley Community College Wind Ensemble, directed by Gene Montgomery will offer a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at LaSalle-Peru High School’s Matthiessen Auditorium. The afternoon performance will include the music of Glenn Osser, Johann Strauss, Frank Ticheli, Leroy Anderson, John Williams, Louis Armstrong and selections from the Wizard of Oz.The ensemble includes IVCC students, local and regional music educators, and community members dedicated to the promotion of quality wind and percussion music.


PERU- Epilepsy Support Group Meeting

WYANET- Library's 5th Annual Cemetery Walk
The Wyanet Library Board is again sponsoring a walk in the Forest Hill Cemetery on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6:30 pm.  The free event is open to the public.Some of the highlights to be expected this year will include the Sapp family who have greatly supported the library with funds in the past.  Come learn about a Civil War veteran , hear words from his letter home upon volunteering, and learn whether he survived the war.  Stand beside the grave of a former slave and learn about her connection to Wyanet. Those participating are encouraged to wear practical shoes and come with a flashlight.  Park on the street only, not in the cemetery, and meet at the cannon which is very visible. For further information the Raymond A. OGLESBY-IVCC offering "Facial Massage Techniques.." Class
Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center will offer “Facial Massage Techniques to Fight Age Lines, Wrinkles and Premature Aging,” (CPD-3138-10) for licensed massage therapists from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 in Room G 106B. Instructor Pam Booras will teach students several different anti-aging techniques for the face, neck, and chest. These techniques will stimulate blood circulation assisting with improved muscle tone to prevent sagging and wrinkles for healthier looking skin. Cost of the class is $139 and students should bring a lunch, snacks, a clean set of sheets for the table, and are asked to dress comfortably. PERU- Fire Department Open House
Peru's Fire Department will hold an open house on Oct. 11 form 10- 2 p.m. You can meet your local firefighters, tour the fire station, go on a fire truck ride, have fun in the bounce house, and see a Extrication Demonstration at noon! 

STREATOR- FREE  LUNCH  PROGRAM
 The Free Lunch Program sponsored by Park Church and Hardscrabble Lions is held the 2nd Saturday of each month at Park Place, 406 E Hickory, Streator with serving starting at 11:30 am. On Saturday, Oct. 11, the meal will be hosted by  Central Church of Christ with the following menu: bbq,chips, salads, deserts and a beverage.The meal is FREE and everyone is invited to attend!


OGLESBY- IVCC's Annnual Jamboree
Illinois Valley Community College’s men’s basketball team will host its annual Jamboree Monday, Oct. 13 in the gym. Participating teams include Midwest Elite Prep, College of Lake County, Waubonsee, Black Hawk East, and Planet Athlete Academy.The first game tips off at 10 a.m. with the Eagles taking on Midwest Elite Prep. The Eagles play again at 1:20 p.m. against College of Lake County and conclude the day at 4:40 p.m. when they face Planet Athlete Academy. Admission prices for the Jamboree are $2 for students, $3 for senior citizens, $5 for adults and it is open to the public.The first home game for the Eagles is at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 against UW-Rock County.


PERU- 3rd Annual Bake Sale
Debo Ace Hardware, 
1713 4th St. in downtown Peru, will be hosting the 3rd Annual Bake Sale from 8-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 where all proceeds raised will benefit Horizon Hourse of Illinois Valley.

TONICA- Trivia Night
Tonica Fire Department is hosting a Trivia Night to benefit Tonica Grade School on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be a 50/50, baskets, and food. Cost is $10 per person, teams of 8. Call Kari at (815)488-2557 to reserve your table. 


PRINCETON- Illinois Valley Toy Run
Princeton Lions Club will be hosting the 10th annual Illinois Valley Toy Run Sunday Oct. 19 at Soldiers & Sailors Park on S. Main St. in Princeton starting at 10 a.m.The entry fee will be a $10 new and unwrapped toy for either boy or girl at any age. STREATOR-Halloween Carnival
On Oct. 22 there will be a Halloween Carnival at Center from 6:30- 8 p.m. There will be Halloween games, pumpkin decorations and games. Wear a costume and receive free tickets for games and for every non perishable food item you bring you receive free game tickets. Extra game tickets are .25 each and decorate a pumpkin for $1.00 and keep pumpkin. Concessions available and for children through 4th grade.


SPRING VALLEY- Annual Fall Bake Sale

PRINCETON- Chicago Bus Trip
Take a trip downtown Chicago with Perry Memorial Hospital's 60 Plus Group and Perry Pride on Saturday Oct. 25. The bus will leave Princeton at 8 a.m. and will return to Princeton by 8 p.m. The cost for this trip is $25 per person for deluxe motor coach transportation. OTTAWA- Bingo
St. Mary's Basket Bingo will be on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the K of C Hall on Main st. in Ottawa. Doors open at 11 a.m., games begin at 1 p.m. and ticket prices are $20 which includes: 20 games (3 cards per games), plus lunch (sandwhich, salad, chips & pickle spear. also free coffee all day). PRINCETON- Health Screening Offered
Perry Memorial Hospital is offering a Health Screening on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the White Oak Classroom. A Lipid Profile test, which includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides will be offered at $25. The following other tests will also be offered: Chemistry Profile for $31, Thyroid-TSH for $23, and Hemogram for $9. All tests except the Hemogram and Thyroid-TSH require a 12 hour fasting. Pre-registration is required. Please bring physician’s name and address to the screening. Tests cannot be completed without this information. Juice and coffee will be available. LOCKPORT- 44th Annual Old Canal Days Festival
The 44th annual Old Canal Days Festival, including the annual Arts & Crafts Show will be held on Saturday & Sunday, June 20 & 21, 2015. The juried arts & crafts  is on Saturday the 20th 10-5 p.m. and Sunday the 21st 10-4 p.m. Booth fees are $100 for standard and $120 for a corner. However, there is an "early bird discount" of $20 per booth if applications are received by Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.
