MENDOTA - "Giving Tree"
The Friends of the library "Giving Tree" is up at the Graves-Hume Public Library. Friends and patrons of the library are asked to make a donation this holiday season to the library by purchasing an ornament to place on its Chirstmas tree. The donor's name will then be placed on a bookplate inside newly purchased circulating materials. Each and every donor's name will be honored in this way. Ornaments can be purchased in increments of $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, & $100. The FOL "Giving Tree" will be displayed on Jan. 1. 

 
Libraries’ Food for Fines Program Benefits Area Food Pantries
Seven area libraries (LaSalle, Peru, Richard A. Mautino, Putnam County, Jacobs Library (IVCC)), Graves-Hume and Oglesby) are again sponsoring an area wide “Food for Fines” amnesty program benefiting area food pantries. From November 10 through 22, these libraries will accept canned or boxed non-perishable food donations for payment of overdue fines. Each donated food item pays a $1.00 in library overdue fines up to a maximum of 25 items to pay $25.00 per overdue library/patron card. Food items must be presented to the circulation desks, with all donated food given to area food pantries (Illinois Valley and Putnam County Food Pantries, Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry and Hall Township Food Pantry). This is the fifth year area libraries have cooperated to benefit of area food pantries.

 
PERU- DBSA Support Group
The DBSA (Depression, Bi-Polar, Anxiety, Association) of the Illinois Valley support group meets every first and third Monday of the month on the forth floor in conference room C from 6:30-8 p.m. at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. For more information, call (815) 252-0200.

Attention Medicare Beneficiaries! You may qualify for money saving benefits through the Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs. Both Programs have income and asset guidelines. PRINCETON- Diabetes Meeting Offered Monthly
Perry Memorial Hospital wants to provide information and support to those who are dealing with diabetes. Each month, on the 2nd Tuesday, Perry has an informational meeting to provide up-to-date guidelines and realistic ways to manage the diagnosis of diabetes. There will also be time at each meeting for open discussion and sharing of ideas. Please contact at (815) 876-4449 to register for this meeting.


STREATOR - Post Office Holiday Mailing Tips
The Postal Service recommends the following mail-by-dates to ensure your gift arrives on time: Dec. 10 - Military mail for overseas bases, Dec. 15 - Standard Post (the most economical shipping service), Dec. 20 - First Class Mail and Priority Mail, Dec. 23 - Priority Mail Express. 


LASALLE - Free ITAC Amplified Phones
Free amplified phones are available through the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation program (ITAC). Qualified individuals must be legal residents of Illinois, have a doctor’s or audiologist’s signature verifying hearing loss, and have standard phone service in the residence. There are no age or income restrictions. An Open House is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 24 from 9- 3:30 p.m. Call now to schedule an appointment or request an application. When you call IVCIL request that an application be sent to you and also schedule your appointment. Please bring your application and copies of the required paperwork. Please note you can come any day to see us about receiving a phone.To get your application for a free phone, call the Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living or (IVCIL) at (815) 224-3126. Appointments are preferred but, walk-ins welcome. IVCIL is open 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.



SPRING VALLEY - St. Margaret's "Teens Need Teens" Peer Support Grief Group
St. Margaret's Health is pleased to announce that they are now offering a free program, "Teens Need Teens" Peer Support Grief Group. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 6-7 p.m. in the hospital's First Floor Presentation room. The program is coordinated by a trained and licensed, clinical social worker to help teens struggling through a painful loss experience. SPRING VALLEY - St. Margaret's Hospital Hosts Bloodmobile
St. Margaret's is hosting a Red Cross Bloodmobile on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Bloodmobile will be held in the hospital's First Floor Presentation room. To be a blood donor you must be in good health, weigh at least 110 lbs. and be at least 17 years old. Please also remember your donor card or photo ID. Walk-ins are welcome, or make an appointment by calling St. Margaret's Volunteer Services at (815) 664-1130.

OTTAWA - Festival of Lights
Parade Starts at 6 p.m.on Friday, Nov. 28. Followed by Lighting of Washington Square Park with the Mayor and Santa at 6:30 p.m. Ice Odyssey will be at the corner of Madison & LaSalle Streets by the Courthouse downtown Ottawa and Chainsaw Ice Sculpture Carving from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.on Saturday, Nov. 29.


STREATOR - Craft and Vendor Fair

Starting Dec. 1, you can bring your Santa letters to the library! Just put your list in the mailbox here, and he'll collect them at our Family Program on Dec. 18.

LASALLE - Summit Learning Academy hosts First Annual Picasso & Pastries Fundraiser
Summit Learning Academy will host its first annual Picasso & Pastries Fundraiser on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5-7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 1345 Chartres Street in LaSalle. Handmade holiday-themed artwork and creative pieces by Summit students will be offered for sale.  Delicious pastries and desserts will also be available for sale at the adults-only event.  The event will also feature a silent auction of gift baskets, including gift certificates to local salons and restaurants, beauty products, and fun items for families.  Hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks will be served. Whether you are looking for some beautiful winter and holiday themed décor, Christmas ornaments, or well-appointed gift baskets, or if you wish to learn more about our program, you will enjoy this event.  Everyone is welcome. PRINCETON - "Gifting Genealogy"
The Bureau County Genealogical Society will meet on Thursday evening, Dec. 4, at the Society library for a combined November/December meeting to accommodate the holidays.  The public is invited to attend this meeting and enjoy the free program presented by Sandy Olson of Sandwich, Illinois, entitled "Gifting Genealogy."  The speaker will present ideas for sharing family research,  mementos, and love of family history with one's family through computer generated gift projects. Beginning at 6 p.m. will be a holiday social hour which everyone is encouraged to attend and support by bringing  a finger food appetizer or dessert to share.  Genealogy projects completed during the past year are also encouraged to be placed on display during the social time for others to view.  The program will begin following a brief business meeting at 7 p.m. to elect officers for the 2015 year.
 
 
SHABBONA - Indian Creek High School Spaghetti Dinner
Indian Creek High School is having a Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, Dec. 5th during the Indian Creek vs Kirkland boys’ basketball game.  The drive thru at the front circle drive of the school is from 4 - 7:30 p.m. and Dine-In at the school cafeteria from 4:30-7:30 p.m.  The meal includes spaghetti, salad, breadstick, dessert and a drink.  Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12.  Advance tickets may be purchased at Indian Creek High School or tickets will be sold at the door.  For more information contact Amy Malm at Indian Creek High School 506 S. STREATOR - Shopping For A Cure
There will be a Christmas Vendor/Craft Show on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 2-6 p.m. at Streator Moose Lodge (Behind Kroger). All proceeds donated to LaSalle County Relay for Life.


LEE - Annual Live Christmas Auction
St. James Knights of Columbus, 4th Annual Live Christmas Auction  "Silent Knight" will be on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. Enjoy great food, fellowship and do some Christmas shopping to support local charities. MINONK - 31st ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE OF LIGHTS
The Minonk Business Association is again making plans for the 31st Annual Christmas Parade of Lights. The parade will be Saturday, Dec. 6th at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Minonk.The festivities will again include fireworks and the parade followed by a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at Pop’s Sweet Shop.  Santa and Mrs. Claus will be handing out candy and visiting with all the children.Many businesses and restaurants will be open before and after the Parade.  Stop N Shop will be at a much larger location at 568 N Chestnut with 20+ vendors and raffle table, starting at 3 p.m. The Minonk Community Bank will have an Open House from 3 - 5 p.m. and many other businesses will have extended hours that evening.To enter a float or if you have any questions please call Petri’s Pour House at (309) 432-2332 or email Nick at vnpetri@petrispourhouse.com.


OGLESBY - IVCC Wind Ensemble 
The Illinois Valley Community College Wind Ensemble, directed by Gene Montgomery will offer a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 in the Cultural Centre. The afternoon performance will feature the Air Mobility Command March, American Overture, Prelude on an Old English Hymn, Harry Potter/Chamber of Secrets, Slavonic Dance No. 4, Bugler’s Holiday, and Sleigh Ride. The ensemble includes IVCC students, local and regional music educators, and community members dedicated to the promotion of quality wind and percussion music. In addition to on-campus concerts, the ensemble also performs at community festivals and events and works with other universities and community bands in joint concerts.  


STREATOR - Elks Free Children's Orthopedic Clinic
The Streator Elks 591 Lodge in cooperation with the  Illinois Elks Children's Care Corporation will sponsor a free children's orthopedic assesment clinic on Monday, Dec. 8. The clinic is from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and is by appointment only. To make an appointment call (800) 272-0074 between the hours of 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are no charges for any services at this clinic.


MENDOTA - "Lego Club"

MENDOTA - "Storybook Fun"
Come join "Storybook Fun" story hour on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 3:30-4 p.m. for children ages 3-K. It isn't necessary to sign-up, just come for stories and other activities.


OGLESBY - Advanced Manufacturing Information Session
Illinois Valley Community College will host an advanced manufacturing information session from 10 - 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 in Room CTC 124 in the new Peter Miller Community Technology Center. Participants in the free session will learn about the skills local manufacturers are requiring and how IVCC’s Certified Production Technician Certificate program and other high-pay, high-demand programs can help students acquire them. For information, visit www.ivcc.edu/cpt or call (815) 224-0547.



PERU - Christmas Bake Sale & Raffle
The Family Circle Club of St. Valentine & St. Mary Churches in Peru is hosting its annual Christmas Bake Sale & Raffle on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Cafe / Annex, 1109 Pulaski Street, Peru.  The sale will feature assorted baked goods, cookies, candy, pies, noodles and potica.  There will be raffle items which include a holiday ham, a tray of homemade decorated cookies and Christmas crafts.

PRINCETON - BCGS Closed for the Holidays
The BCGS library will close for holiday vacation at the end of the day on Friday, Dec. 19 and not reopen until Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.  Those needing to use the library during that two week period may call to make an appointment at ( 815) 879-3133 during the normal hours of operation Monday,Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. or at (815) 303- 7386 at other times.  The library will be open for the first Saturdays on December 6 and January 3 during regular hours of operation.


LOCKPORT - 44th Annual Old Canal Days Festival
The 44th annual Old Canal Days Festival, including the annual Arts & Crafts Show will be held on Saturday & Sunday, June 20 & 21, 2015. The juried arts & crafts  is on Saturday the 20th 10-5 p.m. and Sunday the 21st 10-4 p.m. Booth fees are $100 for standard and $120 for a corner. However, there is an "early bird discount" of $20 per booth if applications are received by Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.
